Youth

Youth at Sequoyah enjoy the intimacy of a smaller church while having the opportunity to participate in a wide range of Christian activities that encourage fellowship, service, leadership, and Christian life. Youth are an integral part of the life of the church, and are given leadership opportunities.

Sequoyah United Methodist Church strives to empower students in a variety of ways, with one set of goals:

  • That all students will grow in faith
  • That they will be committed followers
  • That they will develop in ministry with, and to, other students and their world

Sequoyah youth benefit from learning and community-building activities, retreats, mission projects and events, and fellowship programs designed to meet students where their needs are and propel them to a new level of spiritual development.

Sunday School

Junior High and Senior High Sunday School (9:45 to 10:45) is a movie-based exploration of relationship with God and with each other.

United Methodist Youth Fellowship (UMYF)

All Junior and Senior High youth gather on Sunday and Wednesday evenings from 6:00 – 7:30 pm to serve God and meet friends from the church. We serve dinner at 6:00 pm. The cost is $3 in the summer for a snack dinner and $4 during the school year for a homestyle dinner.

Confirmation

Confirmation class for 6th graders begins each September and ends with students being confirmed as full members of the church in April. Students learn what it means to be a Christian and a member of the United Methodist church. The class meets Sunday mornings from 9:45 to 10:45. Throughout the year, confirmands have the opportunity to visit different places of worship as well as to participate in retreats, overnight trips, and other activities with the youth group.

Missions

The Youth of Sequoyah are involved in outreach projects throughout the year. Junior and Senior High youth each participate in week-long mission trips in the state of Arkansas during the summer months. The Ozark Mission Project is for all Senior and Junior High students. Local service opportunities are available for individuals and groups throughout the year. Funding for youth mission activities comes from the annual Pumpkin Patch sale of pumpkins to the community.
