A Quiet Place

This group meets Sunday mornings for an hour starting at 8:45 in the church parlor. We open the time with a scripture reading or Lectio Divina, which leads us into a 20 minute period of silence. Following silence, individuals often talk of their experience during prayer, comment on scripture or share what is in their heart. We will then view a segment of a video or listen to topics on the contemplative journey.

A Quiet Place is for those who are drawn to silence as a way to deepen their relationship with the indwelling Christ. “Hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he has given us.” (1 John 3:24) Members are encouraged to use whatever practice they are familiar with. If instruction is needed, Centering Prayer a form of Christian Meditation is offered.

We pray in silence, in the monastic tradition, modeled by Jesus Christ throughout his ministry. We are a small community who studies contemplative literature passed down through the centuries, listening to God and seeking truth. We understand that this is not the only path to God, but a practice that gives deeper meaning to all spiritual practices as we journey along the path toward wholeness.

The group is open to all who are called as the psalmist intoned: “Be still, and know that I am God.” Psalm 46:10

Solitude is not something you must hope for in the future. Rather, it is a deepening of the present, and unless you look for it in the present you will never find it.
