Sequoyah United Methodist Church strives to empower students in a variety of ways, with one set of goals:
- That all students will grow in faith
- That they will be committed followers
- That they will develop in ministry with, and to, other students and their world
Sequoyah youth benefit from learning and community-building activities, retreats, mission projects and events, and fellowship programs designed to meet students where their needs are and propel them to a new level of spiritual development.
Junior High and Senior High Sunday School (9:45 to 10:45) is a rotating curriculum which can include movies, games, discussions, and activities
United Methodist Youth Fellowship (UMYF)
All Junior and Senior High youth gather on Sunday and Wednesday evenings from 6:00 – 7:30 pm to serve God and meet friends from the church. We serve dinner at 6:00 pm.
Confirmation class for 6th graders begins each January and ends with students being confirmed as full members of the church in April. Students learn what it means to be a Christian and a member of the United Methodist church. The class meets Sunday mornings from 9:45 to 10:45.
As a way to fund Youth Ministries, hundreds of pumpkins arrive at Sequoyah UMC in October, as the congregation gets into the spirit of the season and creates a huge pumpkin patch! Pumpkins of all sizes will be available to the public in time for seasonal decorating. Youth are given leadership & management opportunities within the Pumpkin Patch. The pumpkins are grown as a fundraiser for the Navajo Indian Reservation in northwest New Mexico and trucked specifically to Sequoyah UMC for this month long event!
Pumpkin Patch 2015
The Youth of Sequoyah are involved in outreach projects throughout the year. They participate in week-long mission trips in the state of Arkansas during the summer months. The Ozark Mission Project is for all Senior and Junior High students. Local service opportunities are available for individuals and groups throughout the year. Funding for youth mission activities comes from the annual Pumpkin Patch sale of pumpkins to the community.
Conference Events & Retreats
Throughout the year youth are able to attend conference events such as Refuge, Veritas, and Junior & Senior High Assembly. These events offer classes, activities, worship, music, and fellowship as well as the chance to participate in ACCYM (Arkansas Conference Council on Youth Ministries). ACCYM is made up of youth throughout the state of Arkansas who have been elected to this leadership board and are responsible for planning these events throughout the year.
